Roof shingles are heavier than I realized...12 packs for a relatively small job equates to about 950lbs of shingles.
My Focus is rated to carry a load of 827lbs
But I only had a short drive and took it very easy back to my house.
And this made me think of my old PT Cruiser. It was rated for 865 lbs. But you could raise that by another 100 lbs by taking out the back seats (which were designed to be easily removable).
So basically you can carry 12 packs of shingles without overloading a PT, but not a Focus.
And the PT felt like it could handle heavier loads better... Or at least better than a Ford Focus.
Just one small way that the PT was better than just about every other small car.

It doesn’t look to bad at least. If it makes you feel any better, this load is 120 lbs away from maxing out a 4 door wrangler Rubicon. So it would be 100 lbs over when you add the driver...

When I worked in the lumberyard, I sold 3 squares (9 bundles) of shingles to a guy for a small project. I wrote up the sale, then went to load his truck....a full size Chevy step side pickup that had been lowered. We got 5 bundles in his truck before he decided he better stop and come back for the rest.

oh, I see. Well I hate to disappoint but I’m actually a genetically altered radioactive super squirrel. I weigh 20 stone, not the British stone, just 20 stones I found...that’s how much I weigh. I do not look good in a bikini

I was thinking about it. I’m guessing it would cost between $200-$400 to buy and ship some Euro tail lights to Canada. But first I have to replace the shingles on the roof of my garage. Then I have to get new tires for the car before winter. And then I have to do some drywall work in my house. And then I have to replace the floor in one of my bathrooms. And then I want to convert my dashboard lights to LED.
And after all that, then I’ll get to doing the Euro tail light conversion... maybe.
LOL

So by lowering it, he ruined his truck. A truck that can’t haul half of what my Focus can haul is a pretty sad truck.

This.
I had to stifle my schadenfreude laughter...the guy did end up buying materials for an entire house shortly after...but he certainly didn’t haul any of it with that truck.
